CENTRAL TRANSITION
The site is a place where has mixture between past and present, where allows the gods from different religions co-exist together in a perfect harmony. The concept is to “preserve local culture and original site while weaving and bring in modern inspired design”. According tot he original site geometry. Central program is introduced into the design along with spiritual elements and local materials, which will be driven by the central point. The central point will be the medium that connect the tower floor and the 3rd floor. In addition, the skylight will communicate between floors and water.
Basantapur Tower:
The site is located in an ancient community building in the valley of Kathmandu. There are total four towers within this community. Each tower presents one old city of the Kathmandu Valley. The site is the “Basantapur Tower”. The tower was extensively restored prior to King Birendra’s coronation. The Basantapur Tower is located on the south of Nasal Chowk . Basantapur Tower means “palace of the spring”. It was one of the tallest and decorated with lots of complex patterns. It is also a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The entrance to the tower is inside the main royal palaces interior Lohan Chowk and stairwells all the way up through the towers floors. Each floor has little windows you can peak out into both the chowk below, durbar square, and across the Kathmandu valley.
